Dvoracek to Miss Entire Season

According to Vaughn McClure from the Chicago Tribune, Dusty Dvoracek, nose tackle for the Chicago Bears, was injured during training camp and will be having an MRI to look at just how bad the injury is. During the game against the Giants last week, Dvoracek was injured and taken out of the game.

It looks like he wasn't fine. Now, Brad Briggs of the Sun Times is reporting that Dvoracek will probably be sidelined for the whole season. Briggs says that the injury is a torn ACL in his right knee, something he's suffered from in the past as well.

No fans of the Bears will take this news well. Aside from his valuable role with the team, Dvoracek has had an injury-riddled career and has never once played a full season in Chicago. Dating back to his rookie campaign in 2006, he was injured before the season and missed the entire year.

He played one game in 2007, until he went down for the season with a torn ACL in his right knee. Last season, 2008, he played 12 games and performed very well until he suffered from torn biceps.

This season's injury maybe a career ending injury, because he has torn his ACL in his right knee twice. I really hope that's not the case, as I really respect Dusty as a player and have always had high hopes for him.

The former third round pick is on his last year of his contract. I don't know if the Bears will want an injury prone player like Dusty on the team, you can't count on him.

This could turn into another Mike Brown situation. It's a shame this happens to such a good player, who always gives a 100% effort.

As for what happens from here, it looks like Anthony Adams and Marcus Harrison will split reps at the nose tackle position, and Matt Toeanina will fill Dusty's shoes.

The Honda Valkyrie Rune: A rare and almost unique used motorcycle.

Total and utter insanity! That's the Honda Valkyrie Rune summed up in a nutshell. Seeing one for the first time makes you question your sanity, or Honda's. It's like the deepest, darkest parts of your nightmare psyche have manifested in the flesh. Or in this case, chrome.

Oddly enough for a bike which is more than knee-deep in chrome, it's not the shine that catches your attention first. It's the sheer size of the beast. This thing is huge! It's like a Honda Goldwing after a visit from Gok Wan. It really *does* look good naked though. It has beautiful lines, amazing swoops and incredible curves.

Let's be direct about this. This bike is insane. In fact I'm not so sure it's a bike at all. It's just a huge 1800cc flat 6 engine crafted into a solid 50's, retro styled frame. And I *mean* solid! The whole bike weighs in at 350kg but you really would never know it. All the weight is so well balanced and so low in the frame that when you sit on this colossus she feel more like a racehorse.

The engine purrs and then kicks like a donkey. Turn into a bend and she digs and growls, shooting out of the apex and leaping down the road for more. I'm not saying she's a road racer you understand, but this is a cruiser through and through. The engine is so smooth and the saddle so comfortable you could stay sitting on this dream of a bike for hour after hour. And enjoy every minute.

So what's the down-side I hear people cry. Unfortunately Honda never imported them to the UK, or indeed Europe I believe, so if you're a Brit you either have to be lucky enough to spot a decent one on Ebay and trusting enough to have it delivered or be willing to travel across the Pond to source one for yourself. This is a rather lengthy process and a bit unpractical for most of us.

However, a bit like waiting for 'Nessie' on the shores of Loch Ness they do from time to time show their faces and at the time of writing there's one up for sale in the Midlands based showroom of Fasttrack Motorcycles. She's patiently sitting in the window waiting to be bought. Or maybe she's waiting for her next victim.

Actually seeing a Honda Rune in reality was what shocked me into writing this mini review. I have honestly never seen anything like it in my life. You really wouldn't be surprised to see a blaster-touting Dredd come walking by and fly off on her at any moment believe me.

So if you have a spare 13k and fancy something a *lot* different, or just fancy going and seeing one of these rare beasts somewhere other than in a photo, take a trip to Leicester and visit Fasttrack Motorcycles. But be reasonably quick as I don't expect her to be there for long. Believe me though, if you do make the trip you will not be disappointed.

Synyster Gates - The Best Modern Guitarist

Born on the 7th of July, Brian Elwin Haner, better known as Synyster Gates which is the name he uses on the stage, is the backup vocalist and the lead guitarist for Avenged Sevenfold, which is an American heavy metal/hard rock band. After attending 2 different schools in California he later on also attended the Musicians Institute situated in Hollywood. Even though he did not graduate from this institute, he had music flowing through his veins. Prior to joining Musicians Institute he had taught himself the rudiments of music by reading books and viewing music videos.

This is surprising because his father was guitar player and also a songwriter who had played with Frank Zappa too. After attending the Institute for roughly six months, Synyster, who prefers to use Bogner amps and Schecter guitars, received a phone call from The Rev of Avenged Sevenfold and was asked if he was willing to join that group as their lead guitarist. Preferring to pursue the career of a studio musician, Synyster forsake his education and joined Avenged Sevenfold.

He had joined this group when he was just 18 years of age towards the end of the year 1999. This was just prior to the recording of Avenged Sevenfold's 1st album titled `Sounding the Seventh Trumpet'. Synyster featured on the extended play of Avenged Sevenfold, `Warmness of the Soul' and also on the re-release of the first album of that group. Synyster also plays the piano for certain selected songs from time to time. The name Synyster Gates was thought of by The Rev during the course of a drunken drive. Some of the members of his band alleged that Synyster had often thought of himself as too good a player for that type of band, but these thoughts were brushed aside by Synyster.

This renowned guitarist, along with The Rev had also played for Pinkly Smooth, a metal band. Both of them finally left this group since they wanted to devote all their time behind Avenged Sevenfold. Synyster Gates has won quite a number of awards like the Total Guitar Magazine's guitarist of the year award in 2006 and also the `Young Shredder' award in 2006. He doesn't have to get along with his teammates or coaches. Look at his time in Philly with Larry Brown, where the two were constantly at each others' throats. Amidst the chaos, Iverson still strung together 30+ points per game and brought his team into the finals.

Despite being 34, he still gets into the lane at ease. He is still a solid player, particularly if his team uses him for scoring boost off the bench. You might be surprised at all these praises but I think AI deserves credit for still sticking around and playing hard at a high level.

Now the rumors have Iverson ending up in Los Angeles, as a Clipper. I'd really hate to see this happen. He just seems like he'd cause a logjam, as Baron Davis and Eric Gordon both do everything a team would want in Iverson, and they do it better at this point.

There'd be no defense either, between AI, Thornton, and Baron. The only guy playing any kind of defense would be Marcus Camby and I'd really hate to see this happen.

As a Clippers fan, I really don't want to see this happen. Iverson belongs with a contender (we in LA absolutely won't contend this year), and only has a few years remaining in his career. He should play somewhere where he can win.

How about New York? They love a big name on the way down, this seems like a perfect fit. Can you imagine what the offense would look like with AI and Nate Robinson?

I know New Orleans is not in the pursuit for AI but I actually think it would be a perfect match. The Hornets really dont have a serviceable 2 guard. We have already seen how potent the Hornets can be with Paul and Pargo. AI would be Pargo on steroids. Tyrone Lue better not sign with whichever team AI goes to or else Lue will be seeing tons of Iverson's fury.

Why Tiger's Loss is More Than Just a Loss

Golf fans were all stunned today when Tiger Woods was defeated by an unknown Y.E. Yang at the PGA championship. The lead was all Tiger's, and to have seen him blow it, well, many weren't expecting it to put it lightly. Yang is the first ever Asian golfer to ever win a major event, and this is the first time Tiger Woods ever lost a major on the last day after having held the lead.

Yay? I don't think the PGA, it's sponsors, or the casual golf fan are very happy. Tiger Woods in the starter, middle reliever, and closer for the PGA. Without Tiger, as we saw last year, no one cares. Now, people are getting the feeling that Tiger has lost it. He didn't win a major this year and pretty much choked away the PGA Championship after missing the cut at the British Open.

Woods is by no means past his prime. After returning from an injury that ended his 2008 campaign, Woods has bounced back with wins at five tournaments. Some of these involved some vintage Woods Sunday comebacks. Unfortunately, the majors are far more watched than the other tournaments, so the typical sports fan doesn't realize that all's not lost in Tiger's corner.

Yang winning is good, at the moment. But looking back 20 or 30 years from now, wouldn't you rather tell your kids or grandchildren about how the greatest golfer of all time beat some other guy in a 12-hole playoff after holing out from the fairway on 18. Wouldn't you rather have told your grandkids about how Tom Watson, the old geezer like you, won the British Open instead of pushing an 8 foot putt way to the right and self-destructing in a 4 hole playoff?

Yang will probably make few headlines anytime soon, and the once "sure prospect" of Woods beating Jack Nicklaus' record for majors one is suddenly not such a sure thing anymore.

And for the 2009 golf season, there's not exactly much that fans can look forward to at this point. Will a Fedex Cup tournament excite them? Not exactly. There's really not much to look for.

Tiger must bounce back in 2009. He is the face of the PGA, and any story lines lacking Tiger Woods will do anything but help the sport grow.

Let's hope that 2010 brings us the return of Tiger Woods, just as the 2009 tennis season has done for Roger Federer after a disappointing 2008. While fans may have cheered on Yang as he defeated Tiger today, you can be sure they're pulling for Tiger over the long run.

Would you rather paint full time than work at the office, garage, restaurant, etc.? Would you like to quit that day job because your artwork is so well known and bought by a lot of people?

In order to accomplish the above feats, you have to get your name out there consistently. You need to be very noticeable and attract lots of attention. This isn't as hard as it may seem, read on for a very simple but effective method to accomplish the above while also helping your fellow creative friends and making your community prosperous.

An example of such a scenario is the Downtown Los Angeles Arts District. The neighborhood started out in ruins, an unsafe area to be in, and since the artists moved in, over a period of ten years, it has become prominent, attractive, secure, well known and prosperous. When artists go into an area and start creating, the area stops going downhill. The empty building are leased or sold, the area gets renovated and commerce proceeds and expands.

Right now there are a lot of empty buildings, offices, car lots, shops in strip malls, many due to the recession. It would make a great impact if artists used these empty spaces for creating. What better use could you imagine?

Here is a workable project that is almost free to start. It can help your neighborhood, and bring success to you and your artist friends.

This is what to do:

1. Locate creative people in your own area - artists, poets, craftsmen, musicians, actors, etc. These people will help you with the project.

Place free ads at Craigslist.org, kijiji.com, local newspaper sites and do a google search for "free classified sites" to find more place to advertise. Be sure to put your zip code to keep it local to your area.

Create flyers to deliver door to door in your local area.

Put the postcards or flyers in the businesses nearby.

Ask people you know for any other artists they may know. You can knock on doors - go to your neighbors, even the ones you do not know well.

2. When you have gotten together a group of artists to assist you, you will need to create a presentation pack. It's not an expensive and complicated pack.

At an office supply store you can buy white glossy paper (about $10), clear plastic sheet covers (100 for about $11) and a presentation binder ($2-$5).

Make a separate page for each artist involved in the project which includes their contact info, pictures of the artist and his or her artwork, something written about the artist and any interesting notes. Put each page in your presentation pack.

3. Next locate vacant buildings in your neighborhood and find someone to be the salesperson. The artists will create in the empty building and the salesperson will be selling the artworks.

You are going to pay the salesperson a percentage of sales, with bonuses for selling over a certain amount per week or per month. To find the sales person, you can ask friends, family, neighbors - someone in need of work will pop up. You assign the salesperson to get a business license from the city and a tax license from the state. Sometimes these licenses are free; sometimes they require a fee, depending on where you are.

When you find the building you want to use, find the owner or real estate agent responsible for the property.

4. Set up a meeting with the owner or agent and do a presentation. Say that you are with a group of artists who want to do something to get the building leased - that will make the owner or agent interested.

5. Present your ideas to the agent or owner keeping the emphasis on the benefits for the owner, including these points:

Tell the owner/agent about the sure-fire way to get the building leased by letting artists into the area to create. It has worked many times - every time you get artists in there creating, the area becomes busy, buildings are leased, the community improves and the area is cleaned up.

You can bring up the Los Angeles Arts District as an example of a place where artists succeeded and raised the general standards of the area.

Then show the presentation pack to the realtor/owner of the artists that will be creating there.

6. If you find out that the realtor/owner wants you to have insurance in order to use the space, team up with a local Alternative School or local charity as either will have the insurance that is needed.

7. Make signs and post them.

Signs can be created on wood, poster board or A-frames. Create colorful signs with arrows indicating the way that read "Artists at Work", "Artists Ahead" and so on. The signs need to be put out on both sides of the street starting at about 50 yards and getting closer. If you created a sign on wood or poster boards, you can easily attach those to poles with bungee cords. Tying balloons to the signs will help to attract attention.

8. Create art.

First you need to bring in some art already done, to give the salesperson something to sell. Then you make your studio space ready, by bringing in all the things you need to paint, sculpt, etc. Attention will be on your location because as one creation of art inspires the next, wonderful energy will be created. The person in charge of sales only has to sell, and the artists only have to create.

9. Do not give up!

You will not have instant success within the first day and the first hour. However if you persist, you will get attention and then sales. Don't give up! It is persistence that pays off.

10. Things to do to get your neighborhood to notice you and your fellow artists.

Create flyers and place in the local stores.

Invite newspaper representatives, someone from local radio stations, galleries, gift stores, etc., to come visit.

After a bit you may discover that your building has been leased or sold. Not a stop for your project. Since you will be helping the new tenant get business - something always necessary - have the agent or owner put in his recommendation that you stay in the space.
