2009 College Football Preview

By Anthony Lagano

So, most of us get excited about the enormous games we play outside the conference, and others get excited about to those big conference games. But then there's the minority that ruminate about January. I'll admit, I do it without fail.

Mainly since I root for a franchise who hasn't won a bowl game since 2006, whereas up until that, they had won five straight. But I still stand loyally adjacent to them, and the Huge 10 Conference.

So what's bound to happen in the non-BCS bowls? I have no thought, I'll figure that out sometime this week or next. But the BCS Bowl Games, here's what I believe is going to occur, and how it might be hindered from happening.

ROSE BOWL presented by Citi Financial (Pasadena, California) Ohio St. Buckeyes vs (at) Southern California Trojans This match might easily be averted. I expect USC to lose one game in the course of the season, as they usually do.

If they get past the Buckeyes on September 12, then they'll be okay. But look out for the Cal Bears. I still predict S.C. will victory the Pac-10, lately becoming known as the "Pac-1." The Buckeyes play the men of troy at home in September, where they'd much rather be than Pasadena, mere miles from the Los Angeles Coliseum. But look out for that November 7 matchup, in Happy Valley.

Needless to say, the last time the Bucks traveled there, they blew out the Lions 37-17. But they need a victory, notably if they go down to USC in September. If they might loss the Trojans in September, and the Lions in November, they can be headed for the National Title. And the same goes for USC.

Tostitos FIESTA BOWL Oklahoma Sooners vs Notre Dame Fighting Irish One detail could put a stop to this contest, October 17. That represents the time of the Red River Rivalry between Oklahoma and the Horns.

The victor of that, which I obviously forecast to be Texas, should pretty much run the table to the National Championship. However.. watch out for the OSU Cowboys. Notre Dame's return to magnificence should begin hitting giant strides this year.

They have an extremely experienced franchise, and a #13 preseason status. Assuming they suffer defeat to USC, but wipe the floor with their 84 other enemies (haha), they should get a nice spot in the BCS at year's end.

BCS National Championship Game sponsored by Citibank (Pasadena, Ca) the Florida Gators vs the University of Texas Longhorns The Gators. Almost every person picks them to find their way to Pasadena on January 7th, led by one of the greatest players of our time, Tim Tebow. They have a few difficulties at some point in the year.. but everybody is awaiting their October 10 battle, at LSU. That and the Florida-Georgia matchup on Halloween are the biggest challenges for the Gators, along with whoever they challenge in the SEC Championship.
