Learn Basic Guitar Chords - How To Play Guitar?

By Simon Mourrain

To learn basic guitar chords, you must figure out what a chord is and how is it created.

A tune is created by a set of tones. On a guitar this set of tones is called chord. The chords of a guitar can be made up of different notes that are played one string after another whether doing it on a plucking or strumming method.

Minor and Major are the two kinds of chords. CAGED is the appellation for the basic principal chords. If you are new on playing the guitar, knowing the CAGED pattern have to be the first and foremost thing you must do. Numerous guitarists who mastered these fundamental chords confessed that it helped for easy handling of the other more complex chords.

Understanding a chord Chart

Learning how to read a chord diagram is essential when starting to learn basic guitar chords.

A chord diagram is an image describing the way to play a chord. A good chord chart must indicate clearly which chord will be used.

The CAGED pattern

See yourself looking at a guitar. Now focus on the fret board. You'll note that a whole fret board is composed of 6 strings connected to it. Well, not basically "attached" but on top of it. These strings are the ones making it possible to produce the chords and tune. If you're going to focus on fingering first, might as well memorize the diverse chords produced in every fret. There are five key and easy chords that will enhance you to learn other more difficult chords.

Sore fingers

As a beginner, your fingertips should be painful at the end of a session. If they are not, you are doing something wrong. The good way to carry out fingering is pressing your fingertips hard enough on the strings. When you notice that there is a buzzing sound or the echo is not going the way it should sound, try to press harder on the strings.

Tips

1) Cut those long fingernails. They will make it tough for you to press the strings properly.

2) Be sure to create an arch with your fingers. Otherwise, they will touch or even silent some strings. At first the position will seem odd and unpleasant but you will shortly get used to it.

3) Be aware that only your fingertips must be in touch with the strings.

4) Keep in mind that you should press the notes altogether. No strings should be left out.

5) DO NOT FORGET, practice makes perfect. Things will not happen overnight.

6) Go with the flow. No need to rush. Rushing yourself will not help. Take the time to do things right. It might appear like a waste of time but it will pay off at the end.

When you learn basic guitar chords, you will be able to play a lot of songs from just mastering a reasonable amount of chords.
