It Never Hurts to Start Young

By Alice Rogans

Bobby LaPonte is avowedly only a youth. He is 6 seasons old, an only child, and lives with his parents in Johns Creek, Georgia.

But Bobby has giant goals. Despite being youthful in age, he is completely set on his dream to sometime drive in NASCAR's big leagues, the Sprint Cup Series.

Bobby's hopes are so huge, in fact, that he regularly dreams about driving with the big fellows. According to his parents, Larry and Nancy, he even makes the sound of racecars in bed.

Larry believes that his kid gave ascend to his interest in NASCAR while still a fetus.

"I raced the amateur track course circuit for ten seasons," he insisted. "When my spouse was pregnant with Bobby, she would always be there to see me race and we suppose that's when Bobby started his love of racing."

Much akin to Jeff Gordon with his daughter Ella, the LaPontes have pictures of youthful Bobby climbing in and out of his father's race car when he was just a baby.

Bobby might drive every day if he could, and he gets that opportunity with the extensive driving season, from March through November, in the Southern part of the country. He and his dad drive each weekend, regularly driving to other states, including Alabama, North Carolina, and Tennessee, to partake in their local events.

This past July, Bobby took park in his 1st nationwide title event. He earned a victory in his semifinal heat race.

Bobby is fast to tell you that he drives in quarter midgets, a lesser type of the USAC Midget Sprint autos that Cup drivers like NASCAR's title point president Tony Stewart started his career driving.

Bobby lets you know that because he plans to trail in Stewart's footsteps and take that same road in his own nascar career.

This small man indeed is looking forward to satisfying his huge NASCAR dreams, that of racing with his idols in the years in store.
