The Practice of Whole Body Medical Arts

By Camilla Nyugen

Practitioners of holistic medicine are those that use natural methods and therapies to help restore the healing process in the body. There are many different types of holistic medicine sometimes referred to as alternative medicine. These practices have not necessarily been validated by Western medical studies. That is no way implies that they are not valid. It simply means that they have not yet been studied.

These traditional practices have sprung up around the world with the development of different societies through time. A common theme running through them is the holistic viewpoint of healing the body. Many of these practices have been used for hundreds and hundreds of years. Western science is just beginning to get to the tip of the iceberg of traditional medicine.

Holistic medicine is a rather broad descriptive term for a healing philosophy. Holistic medicine includes healing traditions that promote the protection and restoration of health based on a systems perspective of the body. This is the foundation of many of the traditional medical practices throughout the world.

Chiropractic medicine is a form of alternative medicine. Its main focus is diagnosing and treating problems of the spine, nervous system and musculoskeletal system. Chiropractors are in high demand as they specialize in areas like pediatrics, sports injury, neurology and orthopedics.

Chiropractic doctors are trained in natural treatments of back related problems. These types of doctors can trace their roots back to the ancient Egyptians. Since those times, many of the techniques have been upgraded and modified to increase their efficiency. Chiropractors all the use natural treatments to restore the health of the spine and do not make prescriptions.

Another popular form of alternative medicine using holistic techniques is massage therapy. Massage therapy uses certain movements and pressures to help soothe and relax the body. It has been found to be effective to relieve discomfort, pain, aches and muscle tension. There are a variety of massage techniques which have different benefits depending on the use.

Acupressure and acupuncture are other forms of holistic medicine that are commonly practiced. These are based on using different acupoints located throughout the body. These acupoints are related to different parts of the body. These can be activated to help him prove the health and flow of vital systems in the body.

Acupressure is the use of stimulating the acupoints with pressure and movement. This helps to activate the acupoints which is believed to initiate the healing process in certain specific areas of the body. Acupuncture relies on the use of small needles directed at the acupoints. The needle is inserted to stimulate the acupoints and initiate the healing process.

It is interesting to see how fast many of these traditional treatments are being integrated into Western medical practices. Many doctors are realizing the benefits of many of these holistic therapies. They are being used to supplement the treatments already been provided or as an alternative to surgery. This is an important step to bring a better balance of medical service to everybody.

The main disadvantage of these holistic practices is simply a lack of medical studies. Most medical studies are funded by companies hoping to profit from a beneficial treatment or drug. There simply isn't enough money to validate many of these treatments since there would be no clear owner of the process.

One of the most important validating trends for holistic medical practices is acceptance by the insurance industry. Many forms of chiropractic medicine are now being accepted and paid for by health insurance providers. Many of these forms of treatment are being used especially in the relief of back pain.
